Mochi rice cake pounding

On Saturday September 29th, 2007, over 500 Toray Plastics (America), Inc. (TPA) family and friends joined together at the Education and Wellness Center for a warm fun filled day. It was a beautiful fall day.

While some groups hopped on the van for a tour of TPA’s facilities, others enjoyed the food, caricature artists, face painting and inflat’s. At noon Mr. K. Maeda, President of TPA, presented a mochi ceremony, where steamed rice was placed in a bowl then hit with wooden mallets to create a paste like ball. Employees lined up for a chance to participate in pounding the rice and sampling the finished product.

In the meantime, attendees battled in a jousting match, danced to their favorite songs or suited up in a sumo costume. At three o’clock the raffle was held where employees had the chance to win ’ LCD television, iPod nano, dinner and a movie package as well as several gift certificates to local retailers.

Over 500 employee and family members attended this event. A special thank you to all of the volunteers for this event, your hard work and commitment is what made this event so successful!
