TREC Continues to Pick up Trash along Indiana’s Highway (10/14/2008)

The sign proves employees’contribution

Did you know there has been a cover-up in Indiana? The landscape is littered with the trash people throw from their vehicles and this debris is hiding Indiana’s scenic beauty. Through Indiana’s Adopt-A-Highway program, TREC has completed its second of four trash pick ups TREC is obligated to for the year. INDOT’s (Indiana Department of Transportation) Adopt-A-Highway coordinator supplies vests, road work signs, and trash bags to help get the job done. Upon completion of the first trash pickup, TREC had a sign placed on the portion of highway adopted for this worthwhile effort.

Followings are some ideas of the lifespan of trash. Please check and use things wisely. DO NOT throw trash from your vehicles!

The Life-Span of Trash:
Traffic Ticket : 2-4 weeks
Cotton Rag : 1-5 months
Rope: 3-14 months
Wool Sock : 1-3 years
Bamboo Pole : 1-3 years
Painted Wood Stake - 13 years
Tin Can - 100 years
Aluminum Can - 200-500 years
Plastic 6-Pack Cover - 450 years
Glass Bottle - undetermined
