The Songkran Festival, the Thai traditional New Year (04/13/2008)

The Management of LTX Mill-3 pouring
water onto the praying monks
The Most important festival in Thailand is the Songkran festival. It is the Thai traditional New Year. It is observed all over Thailand from 13 - 16 April in every year.
During that time, the Thai people are very joyful because of the festival. Most of them leave the cities their working in such as Bangkok and the cities around Bangkok to go back to their hometowns to celebrate and enjoy various activities with their families during this long holiday.
A part of the celebration and activity is purely religious, marked by merit making ceremonies at the local temples. The important part of the celebration is pouring water as respect to the elders, during the pouring of water on the elders we receive blessing for good luck for the New Year. Another part is the social pleasure of the water throwing parades and in some cities Miss Songkran Beauty Contests are also held.
At LTX Mill-3, we arranged part of the celebrations to conserve and maintain the festival spirit. We call it “Mill-3 Songkran day.” We arranged getting the cooperation of the Union members of Mill-3. We set up a ceremony to bathe the Buddha image. We bathe it by pouring water onto the Buddha image and pouring water on the praying monks. After that we pour water onto the management of Mill-3 and get their blessing for a happy and a prosperous year. The last ceremony is the water throwing and splashing each other to cool ourselves down during the hottest seasons.
