Environmental Improvement Project (Jun., 2009)
Engineering Department of LTX Mill 1 initiated environmental improvement project to reuse the drain water from air conditioner systems in April 2008. This project is in the top 10 projects within LTX done by engineering staff with advice from an energy saving consultant of Chulalongkorn University and was also presented in Kaizen committee of Toray Group companies in Thailand. As Mill 1 has been continuously concerned with energy saving and could improve the energy saving with this project, Mill 1 then is in the top 50 factories in Thailand and received a certificate of “Excellent Saving Energy Promotion Reward” from Thai government.
This project is done in the centralized air compressor building of Mill 1 by utilizing water circulation in the air conditioner system instead of draining all to canals. This draining is done in order to keep water quality by controlling electric conductivity. About 10% of drain water is used to sprinklers on the roof by connecting the pipe to the roof which can help reduce room temperature and increase efficiency of air compressor machine. Consequently, the room temperature is decreased by 3℃ (41℃ to 38℃ ) and also can reduce energy consumption to be average at 29,508 kWh/6 months (February-July) or about 76,720 Baht.
Apart from this project, the next step will be management of cooler water being a separate water piping line system for chiller and air compressor machine in the near future.
