High-ranking government officials from Qingdao, where Toray’s joint venture company Toray Jifa (Qingdao) Textile Co., Ltd. (TJQ) is located, paid visits to Toray on October 17 and 18. TJQ was established for spinning, weaving, and dyeing business of TETORON*/cotton blended yarn and cotton yarn.

On October 17, Mr. Huang Runhua, Vice President of Qingdao Municipal Development and Reform Commission, visited Toray’s Head Office in Tokyo for a working level meeting with Mr. M. Yoshikawa, Executive Vice President, and Mr. E. Tanaka, Senior Vice President, to discuss the future plans of TJQ. The meeting resulted in an agreement to further mutual cooperation. The following day, a delegation of senior government officials from Qingdao City, headed by the city’s Vice Mayor, Mr. Hu Shaojun, met Mr. Yoshikawa to confirm the friendly relationship between Toray and Qingdao City, agreeing to further strengthen that relationship. At the meeting, Mr. Hu Shaojun showed a strong interest in Toray’s desalination technology as an environmental measure to deal, in particular, with the problem of water shortages that the city faces.
