Receiving Technology Award from the Japanese Society of Printing
Science and Technology (Held On 02/22/2008)

The certificate bestowed by the Japanese Society
of Printing Science and Technology
Toray received the Technology Award from the Japanese Society of Printing Science and Technology for its development of a waterless CTP plate and printing system with a low environmental burden. The presentation took place on February 22 and the attendees were as follows : Mr. K. Maeshima, Senior Research Chemist of Electronic and Imaging Materials Research Laboratories, Mr. K. Goto, Manager of Research and Development Planning Department and Electronic and Imaging Materials
Research Laboratories, and Mr. K. Nagase, Senior Research Associate of Research and Development Planning Department. The award was given for the outstanding properties of the Waterless CTP plate and printing system, including its low environmental burden, excellent economic advantages, and supreme printing characteristics.
CTP stands for “computer to plate,” which is a printing system to print the image data with a laser directly on the printing plate. The waterless CTP needs no water although dampening water is essential for conventional CTP. Using no dampening water contributes to the reduction of VOCs. By introduction of a water-developable system, it has zero emission of strong alkaline waste fluid during image development. With these functions, the waterless CTP is very environmentally friendly. In addition to its environmental aspects, it also shows excellent properties in terms of improving and stabilizing printing quality and reducing costs.
Under the corporate slogan, “Innovation by Chemistry,” we will make increasing contributions to the realization of a sustainable society and the development of the printing industry and information society through stable supplies of improved waterless CTP as well as high-quality services.
