Toray Receives the Senken Award 2007 and its 30th Anniversary Award (06/19/2008)

On June 19, the Presentation of 30th Senken Awards 2007 took place in Tokyo. Toray received the Senken Award for its large-scale sales of HEAT TECH which was jointly developed with UNIQLO Co., Ltd. At the same time, Toray was presented the 30th Anniversary Senken Award commemorating 60th anniversary of Senken Shimbun Co., Ltd., the top newspaper for apparel & fashion business in Japan. Mr. Sugimoto, Executive Vice President of Toray received both awards on behalf of the company.

The award-winning HEAT TECH series was the second product jointly developed with UNIQLO under our strategic partnership. As a highly moisture-retaining functional underwear, its sales jumped by 66% compared to the previous year, to 20 million sets in total. This huge sales volume led us to receive the award.

The 30th Anniversary Awards were given to companies and organizations that have been making significant contributions to the fiber, textile, apparel and fashion industries. Toray won the award for its peerless business activities in the upstream business areas.

In his speech upon accepting the award, Mr. Sugimoto said that Toray was grateful to receive the award and taking it as a good opportunity to seek ways to make further contributions to society through its development of fiber and textile businesses.
