Toray Industries, Inc.
Participating in nano tech 2010 (Feb. 17-19, 2010)

From February 17 to 19, “nano tech 2010 - International Nanotechnology Exhibition & Conference” took place at Tokyo Big Sight with over 42,000 visitors.

On the 18th, a reception was held and guests from embassies, as well as political, business, government, and academic fields gathered. At the reception, Mr. Akikazu Shimomura, Chairman of the Board of Toray, gave a welcome speech as Chairman of Nanotechnology Business Creation Initiative (NBCI).

This was the world’s largest international nanotech exhibition, with about 650 companies, universities, and public institutions from about 20 countries worldwide. The event’s great success reveals the international expectations for nanotech to which the Toray Group is significantly committed.

Toray and Toray Research Center Inc. jointly set up an extremely successful booth visited by many thanks to their very unique state-of-the-art-materials. These materials included colorless transparent aramid films, innovative thermal insulation sheets, carbon nanotubes, new fine polymer particles, carbon fiber composites, membrane bioreactors (MBRs), DDS (Drug Delivery System) using nanoparticles, and high-sensitive DNA chips.

At the Nano Tech Award Ceremony for participants held on the 19th, Toray received the Green Nanotechnology Award for its environmentally-friendly technologies in separation membranes for water treatment, carbon fiber composites, and innovative thermal insulation sheets that were displayed at the exhibition. On behalf of Toray, Mr. Makoto Shirai, Deputy General Manager of Research & Development Planning Dept. attended the ceremony and received the award.
