Q1. What was your most impressive work?

My most impressive work was being a part of the Voluntary Protection Program (VPP) committee since our OSHA VPP Star certification[1] in 2009. I’ve learned a lot about working safely. I’ve had the privilege of going to several VPP conferences, the latest in Atlanta. I also gave a presentation at the conference talking about our best practices in safety.

Our accomplishments in safety are due to management and production working as a team.

Q2. What does your company do?

Our company is a manufacturer and supplier of commercial polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) fibers, filaments, and treated synthetic fiber products.

Q3. What does your department/section do and what work are you in charge of?

I’m a spinning technician and I work in the production area. I’m our safety team leader. We make a product that we spin into Teflon®[2] fiber.

Q4. What kind of job do you mainly put a lot of effort into?

As a safety team leader, I put a lot of effort into keeping up with our safety meetings and information. I also help keeping up with 5S (sort, set in order, shine, standardize, sustain) in our plant.

Q5. When do you feel rewarded at work?

When we reach different milestones in safety and quality. When management acknowledges us for a job well done.

Q6. What is it that you put a lot of effort into in your personal life?

My days and weekends off are usually spent with my husband and niece. We go to the movies or I take her to the skating rink. We like to visit our grandchildren and for them to spend the night. On Sunday and Wednesday, we visit our church family. I like to spend holidays celebrating with my family and friends. We like to get together and play cards and cornhole[3].
