Developing new textiles and strengthening proposal capabilities

  1. Q1. What was your most impressive work?
    My most impressive work was when I contributed to the expansion of our overseas business during the three years between 2012 and 2014, at which time I was responsible for the sports textile export business. In the environment where external factors, including foreign exchange, dramatically change, I managed to coordinate through trial and error with Toray Group’s overseas trading companies such as Toray International America Inc. (TIAM) and Toray International Europe GmbH (TIEU) and overseas manufacturing companies such as Toray Sakai Weaving & Dyeing (Nantong) Co., Ltd. (TSD), and sometimes having direct dialog with overseas customers to realize the expansion.
  2. Q2. Please describe about the office you are working at.
    Osaka Head Office is located in an environmentally blessed location with abundant water and greenery surrounded by the Dojima and Tosabori Rivers. There are many great curry and rice restaurants scattered around the office.
  3. Q3. What does your department/section do and what work are you in charge of?
    The department develops, manufactures, and sells textiles for domestic sports/casual apparel and for UNIQLO CO., LTD. I am responsible for the business management of the Sports Woven Fabrics Section No. 1.
  4. Q4. What kind of job do you mainly put a lot of effort into?
    I put a lot of effort into the development of new textiles and new items as well as strengthening proposal capabilities; the development of world-class “Made by Toray” products created based on our specially made filament yarns in cooperation with local companies; proposing sports-high-functionality based new items to casual/business sector.
  5. Q5. When do you feel rewarded at work?
    I feel rewarded when I physically see the products that I was involved in developing in the shops. Also when the product becomes a hit or I can share the fun, joy, and pain of giving birth to something new with the customers.
  6. Q6. What is it that you put a lot of effort into in your personal life?
    I put a lot of effort into supporting my son play baseball. When he hit a homerun, I felt so happy as if it was my own.
