Jankovic made a big leap in the 2006 season. After she became the finalist at a tournament in Los Angeles against S. Williams in August, she set down Vaidisova at the 3rd round, Kuznetsova at the 4th round, and Demetieva at the quarter-final of US Open. It lead her to reach to the semi-finalist for her first time in Grand Slams.
