Toray PPO 2009 Features

** Open more opportunities for Japanese players. Draw doubles to 56 **
Qualifiers are to be doubled to 8, and Qualifying will be 2 rounds in total instead of 3.
Main Draw size becomes 56, and Wildcards (selected by tournament) will be increased from 3 to 5. Japanese players will have more opportunities to play in the Main Draw.
** Main Draw first round starts on Sunday **
Much more spectators will be able enjoy many matches of promising Japanese players and spirited newcomers feeling easy.
Seeded players have to play at 5 matches to advance to the Finals due to the increase of the draw size. World top players will appear on court every day.
** Finals on Saturday **
As the showcase matches will be played on Saturday, fans can come throughout Japan. According to the SE WTA Tour's restructuring, 7 of world top 10 players, and 7 more players from world 10 - 20 players will participate in the PPO, which can be the comparably big tournament to the Grand Slams.

** PPO is one of the noteworthy tournament for top players **
There are only 3 big tournaments after US Open; Toray PPO, China Open, and Kremlin Cup. PPO is one of the noteworthy tournament for top players to acquire more ranking points, aiming at the qualification for the year end Championships and at being year end champion.
"Top 10 players" for the next year is to be decided at this Championships. As the showcase matches will be played on Saturday, fans can come throughout Japan.
