Toray to Accelerate Expansion of Fiber Green Innovation Business
The company establishes a strategic organization;
to grow sales of the business to 93 billion yen in fiscal year 2013
Toray Industries, Inc. (Chuo-ku, Tokyo; President: Akihiro Nikkaku; hereinafter referred to as “Toray”) announced today that it has formulated a strategy to expand the Green Innovation Business in Fibers and Textiles Division. In June, Toray stablished an organization pursuing the strategy with an aim of expanding the Green Innovation products in Fibers and Textiles Division to 93 billion yen in fiscal year 2013.
Under its medium-term management program Project AP-G 2013 launched in April this year, Toray pursues business expansion in growth regions and growth business fields. As part of the measures to achieve this goal, the company is driving forward the group-wide projects of Green Innovation Business Expansion (GR) Project in which it contributes to solving global environmental issues, and energy and resource issues.
The Fibers & Textiles Green Innovation Business Planning Department, established on June 1, this year is aims at achieving further growth of Fibers & Textiles Division, which is one of the company’s Foundation Businesses, and subsequent profit expansion through steady promotion of the GR Project. The department shall formulate the growth strategy for the Green Innovation Business in Fibers & Textiles Division, carry out planning and promotion of commercialization of the Green Innovation products, and support the Green Innovation Business pursued at other divisions. The new department will integrate the functions of the polylactic acid (PLA) fibers business management and marketing as well as that of fibers and textiles recycling business.
Toray categorizes Green Innovation products that directly or indirectly contribute to solutions to global environmental issues and energy and resource issues into nine categories. The Fibers and Textiles Division has products falling under seven out of these nine categories and these products generated sales of 67.9 billion yen in fiscal year 2010, up 33% compared with a year earlier. Moving forward, the division aims to grow these sales to 93 billion yen in fiscal year 2013, which is the final year of Project AP-G 2013 and 130 billion yen around 2020, through expansion of the Green Innovation Business with focus on warm and cool materials that assist energy-saving efforts and 3GT and PLA based on biomass as well as acceleration of development and commercialization of new products.
Based on the long-term corporate vision AP-Growth TORAY 2020, Toray and the Toray Group shall contribute to the realization of a sustainable low-carbon society through global expansion of its Green Innovation Business by harnessing the power of chemistry in efforts to solve global environmental issues, as well as energy and resource issues to catch the trend away from dependence on oil resources, and become a corporate group that enables sustainable expansion of business profits.
