Selected to Dow Jones Sustainability World Index

Toray Industries, Inc. (Headquarters, Chuo-ku, Tokyo; President, Sadayuki Sakakibara) has been first selected as a member of the Dow Jones Sustainability World Index (DJSI World), a leading global SRI (Socially Responsible Investment) index. The index is reviewed in September every year. DJSI world 2007/2008, which takes effect on September 24, 2007, includes 318 companies all over the world, of which 36 companies are Japanese including Toray. In Chemicals sector, in which Toray is allocated, 9 companies have been selected as a member of DJSI world 2007/2008. Toray is the only Japanese company selected from Chemicals sector.

DJSI world is the stock price index which was developed in 1999 by the cooperation of Dow Jones Indexes, an index provider in the U.S. and SAM (Sustainable Asset Management) Group, an SRI research and asset management company, and is known as an influential index for the stock selection of SRI funds. Index components of DJSI world are reviewed among 2,500 companies around the world. The top 10 % companies which are superior in economic, environmental, and social criteria are selected as the index components.

Toray Group is promoting CSR innovation, as a major key management issue under its mid-term business strategies “Project Innovation TORAY 2010 (IT-2010),” and takes this opportunity to further enhance CSR activities such as “compliance with business ethics, laws, and regulations,” “safety, accident prevention, and environmental preservation,” “development of human resources,” and “social contribution” while pursuing transformation to a highly profitable business group toward a global top company of advanced materials.
