TPM was incorporated in 1990, it is currently the only Japanese ABS manufacturer that is operating outside Japan and running at a capacity of 220,000 metric tons per year. TPM is producing ABS plastics resin under the brand name of TOYOLAC* with the same quality as Toray's Chiba Plant in Japan and supplying to all over the world mainly to China, Hong Kong and the ASEAN region. Currently more high value added product is being developed and added to its product range like the painting grade, flame retardant grade, heat resistant grade and glass fiber reinforced grade. At the same time the internal compounding product range is also being expanded to cater for a stronger competitive market.

The Technology Centre that is going to be officially opened will be responsible to develop new products to meet the market needs and to improve on the productivity and quality by development of better production technology. It will also serve as an end user technical service center. Besides equipment and facility for development of polymerization process and extrusion machine, it will also acquire injection molding machines and various kinds of evaluation and analysis equipment for polymer property tests. Thus it is establishing itself to the maximum limit as a comprehensive technology development center.

With the establishment of this Technology Centre, Toray will position TPM as its strategic base for its plastic resin business in the ASEAN region. While expanding the ABS resin business and also fully utilizing the facility at the Technology Centre, it will also educate the local technical staffs and build up the technical know how locally, there are plans to make TPM as Toray's main base for engineering plastic technology development for the ASEAN region.

On Toray's plastic resin business, it is establishing itself more by reforming its business structure and also aggressive investment through expansions like setting up of PBT resin polymerization process plant in Malaysia in 2006 and other reinforcement of it's compounding facilities in China and Thailand. The setting up of this Technology Centre is also a part of its strategy to strengthen itself globally in research and technology development. Toray group will continue to build up its global operation to provide fast and precise response for the market needs and make its presence strongly felt as a major player of plastic resin business in Asia.
