Toray Establishes Automotive Center (China) in Shanghai
-To accelerate business expansion in the growing automotive market in China-
Toray Industries, Inc. (Chuo-ku, Tokyo; President: Akihiro Nikkaku; hereinafter referred to as “Toray”) announced today that it established an integrated automotive-related parts and materials showroom, the Automotive Center (China), (AMCC), at the Shanghai Office of Toray Fibers & Textiles Research Laboratories (China) Co., Ltd. (Nantong, Jiangsu, China; President: Naoyuki Kinoshita; TFRC).
Establishment of AMCC is aimed at showcasing Toray Group’s comprehensive strengths in the automobile area in China and towards strengthening collaboration in particular with local and foreign automobile and auto parts manufacturers operating in China.
Approximately 300 square meters of space in TFRC Shanghai is allocated for AMCC for displaying and introducing in a comprehensive manner various materials and auto parts offered by the Fibers and Textiles, Resins, Films, Carbon Fibers and IT Materials businesses with regular displays as well as a transparent display vehicle showcasing Toray Group’s advanced materials for automotive applications. In addition, the center has spaces for having meetings with customers so that the customers can view actual materials and parts while having detailed discussions.
In the near future, Toray Group plans to introduce prototype and evaluation instruments at TFRC Shanghai with an eye on upgrading it into the Group’s automotive materials development center in China.
In 2010, sales of China’s expanding automobile market exceeded 18 million cars a year, making it the world’s biggest market. Along with this growth, local automobile and auto parts manufacturers have been expanding their productions and Europe-, U.S.- and Republic of Korea-based manufacturers have been speeding up their entry into the market, in turn further boosting the demand for automotive materials in China.
Ever since establishing its first production facility in China about 20 years ago, Toray Group has been actively working on expanding its business in China through steps including establishment of Toray Industries (China) Co., Ltd. (TCH), the company currently supervising the Group’s business in the country, a fibers and textiles production base in East China, resin compound and film manufacturing bases in South China, and joint ventures in the fields of water treatment and medical equipment with local partners.
By establishing AMCC in Shanghai, the center of the economy, surrounded by numerous local Chinese manufacturers, Toray Group intends to utilize its infrastructure to the maximum possible extent and expand into the fast-growing Chinese automobile market.
Under its new medium-term management program “Project AP-G 2013,” launched in April 2011, Toray Group aims to pursue business expansion in growth business fields and growth regions. The expansion this time into the Chinese automobile field is part of the concrete measures under that management strategy.
Toray will continue to focus on actively expanding its advanced materials business in growing markets to realize the corporate philosophy of “Contributing to society through the creation of new value with innovative ideas, technologies and products.”
