The Functional Materials and Products Development Center was created in 2002 under direct control of the Technology Center.
The focus of functional materials development, it harnesses and combines all materials in the Toray portfolio for progressive product advances across all corporate divisions.

The Center advances development in the following product fields.

Automobiles

High-performance airbag fabric, polylactic acid car mats, new car sheets, etc.

Everyday-use materials

Energy-saving insulation sheet, polylactic acid/Kenaf board, high-function curtains, etc.

Air purification

Dust-removal filters, heat-resistant bag filters

Urban renewal and amenity space

Carbon fiber based repair and reinforcement technology, civil engineering sheeting, exterior materials, water-based ceramic block, etc.

Information and communications

Gas adsorption filters, radio wave absorbers, etc.
