The Electronics and Information Related Products Division began in 2004 as the two divisions outlined below, with a ceramics business team added in 2005. Today, it supports a key phase of the "Three Growth Domains" at Toray, as a driving force in the quest for "business expansion through advanced materials." The Division contains the Electronics and Information Materials Division (Electronics and Information Materials Technical Department, PDP Technical Department) and the LCD Materials Division (LCD Materials Production & Technical Department) - both instrumental in developing the following technologies.
The Department was established in 1989 with the aim of developing technology for circuit materials, electro-coatings and other types of advanced materials.
- Circuit materials: TAB-use adhesive tape (ICC), copper-clad polyimide film (KCC), semiconductor-use adhesive sheet (TSA)
- Electro-coatings: Semicofine* and Photoneece* polyimide resin solutions, the EBR* electron beam resist series
Established in 2002, the Department advances technical development of new products, processes and materials for the plasma display panels manufactured by Matsushita Plasma Display Co., Ltd., a company launched as a partnership with Matsushita Electric Industrial Co., Ltd.
First established in 1996 as the LCD Materials Department, then merged with the LCD Materials Production Department in 2002 to assume its present name and status. Color filters comprise a new field projected to join fibers & textiles and plastics as the third major business pillar at Toray.
The Electronics and Information Related Products Division also develops technology for plastic optical fiber, photosensitive resin relief printing materials, waterless planographic printing plates and ceramic products.
