Textile Development Center

The Textile Development Center was opened in 1981 to develop innovative processing technologies and products based on that know-how. Efforts focus on fashion and functional textiles and other products enhancing general lifestyle quality through clothing and accessories.

Striving to create apparel with stellar quality and performance, the Center devotes the lion's share of its energies to new product development in spinning, fiber processing, weaving, knitting, dye finishing and sewing technology. A pivotal focus is the quest to develop genuinely comfortable clothing from textiles - epitomized by demanding performance evaluations in the Technorama* weather laboratory.

This facility simulates environments all over earth, for comprehensive assessments and verification of thermal retention, wind resistance, cool comfort and other essential qualities. Toray uses the statistical feedback to design ever-improved textiles and clothing products.
