Toray established the Toray Science Foundation in Japan in 1960, its aim being to assist and encourage basic research in science and technology, and to contribute to the improvement and development of science, technology and culture. As a pioneering initiative by the private sector, the foundation attracted a great deal of public attention, and today has earned high praise for its activities, examples by its provision of large grants to young researchers. The major activities of the Foundation include the following
1.Toray Science and Technology Prize:
An award honoring outstanding achievements in science and technology.
2.Toray Science and Technology Grant:
Grants to young researchers engaged in basic research projects in the fields of science and technology.
3.Toray Science Education Prize:
A prize presented to junior and senior high school teachers who have given creative and innovative lessons in science with good results.
