Toray Group Companies in Malaysia Stand in Solidarity with People of Penang
Toray Group companies in Malaysia (hereinafter TGM), a pioneer of Penang State’s industrialization programme since the early 1970s, gave back to the local community with a one million ringgit cash donation to the Penang COVID-19 Fund.
Given the on-going surge and record highs of daily cases, the TGM recognized the importance of being responsive to the State’s immediate needs to provide more medical facilities to meet public health demands at this critical time.
On September 28, 2021, a TGM delegation led by Toray Industries, Inc.’s Vice President cum Chief Representative for Malaysia Teh Hock Soon, Toray Deputy Representative for Malaysia cum Penfibre Sdn. Berhad (PFR) Managing Director Hiroaki Matsubara, and Toray Plastics (Malaysia) Sdn. Berhad (TPM) Managing Director Masahiro Nishizawa handed over a mock cheque to Mr. Chow Kon Yeow, chief minister of Penang together with Dr. Norlela Ariffin, chairman of Penang State Rural Development and Health Committee.
In expressing his deepest appreciation, Chief Minister Chow said, “We are indeed very thankful to TGM as well as other donors for assisting the state government at this difficult time. We all know that we are not out of the woods; we still face a high number of cases in Penang although we hope that things can return to normal as soon as possible.”
Teh commented, “As a responsible corporate citizen, Toray Group stands in solidarity with the people of Penang. Hopefully, this small contribution will help the community to reduce the number of cases. We believe that by rallying together and fighting this pandemic with courage, compassion and resilience, we can make a difference and help keep the local populace healthy, safe and supported.”
