Toray Group Value Creation History

The Toray Group started in 1926 as a rayon manufacturer. Since then, we have developed innovative technologies across a wide range of fields, including the three major synthetic fibers, namely nylon, polyester and acrylic, as well as films, chemicals, resins, electronic & information materials, carbon fiber composite materials, pharmaceuticals & medical products, and water treatment & environment. Through these efforts, we have created numerous advanced materials and high value-added products. Looking ahead to what society may be like in 2050, we will continue to pursue long-term corporate value enhancement from the perspective of how our innovative technologies and advanced materials can contribute to society.

Toray's Core Technology

Toray Group’s core technologies comprise organic synthesis chemistry, polymer chemistry, biotechnology, and nanotechnology. Based on these technologies, we advance the deepening and integrating of elemental technologies such as polymerization, fiber formation, advanced textile processing, and film production. Through these efforts, we create advanced materials and achieve their commercialization across a wide range of business fields, including fibers & textiles, resins, chemicals, films, as well as electronic & information materials, carbon fiber composite materials, pharmaceuticals, medical devices, and water treatment.

Under “IGNITION 2028,” our Medium-Term Management Program for FY 2026–2028, we aim to reach revenue of 3 trillion yen and core operating income of 230 billion yen, thereby achieving ROIC of about 7% in FY 2028.
