LYCRA® fiber is a man-made spandex fiber as thin and transparent as a spider web that offers superior stretch and recovery properties. It can be stretched four to seven times its initial length before springing back to its original length once tension is released.
Never used alone, but always blended with other fibers, it adds unique stretch and recovery properties to fabrics. Garments blended with LYCRA® fiber offer comfort, fit, shape retention, and freedom of movement. Any natural or man-made fibers can be mixed with LYCRA® fiber. Very small amounts of LYCRA® fiber can transform the performance of a fabric - the amount of LYCRA® fiber in a material may be just a small fraction.
There are various ways of integrating LYCRA® fiber with other fibers to provide fabrics with stretch properties for different enduses. Depending on the weaving/knitting method as well as varieties of natural/man-made fiber to be blended with, there are a number of possible combinations.
-Fashion clothing in general
-Clothing materials such as elastic tapes and cords
