Tokyo, Japan, June 30, 2021 – Toray Industries, Inc., announced today that it and UPR Corporation jointly won the Sustainable Activity Prize as part of the 22nd Logistics Environment Award of the Japan Association for Logistics and Transport. This was for Toray becoming the first company to use “Smart Pallet” employing UPR-developed active RFID tags.This prize recognizes exceptional contributions from organizations, companies, or individuals to progress in the logistics sector by lowering its environmental impact through conservation and environmental awareness enhancement activities or through pioneering technological development.Using UPR’s tags has enabled through-transit pallet transportation and eliminated much manual loading and unloading for truck drivers. This has enhanced work environments and logistics productivity. Another factor in receiving this prize was that Toray has been able to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 197 metric tons annually by better tracking pallets to streamline its network for recovering those items.
