Tokyo, Japan, October 14, 2021 – Toray Industries, Inc., announced today that it will release Toraysee™ New Year cleaning cloths in two designs and Tekari Sarari™ oil-removing face cloths, in one design, in early November. These offerings employ Toray’s ultra-fine microfiber technology. They will retail through optician shops around Japan and online. Toray will begin taking orders for novelty applications in mid-October.
These cloths are particularly useful in view of Japan heading toward a second New Year during the COVID-19 pandemic. They are compact, and people can easily give them in person or post them to friends, family, business acquaintances, and customers.
The Toraysee™ brand debuted 34 years ago. As part of Toray’s commitment to materializing the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), a percentage from sales of this New Year’s collection will go to a National Federation of UNESCO Associations fund that supports children affected by the Great East Japan Earthquake. This will be the 13th year of Toray’s contributions to UNESCO programs. Through Toraysee™, Toray will continue to assist students in quake-affected areas in coming years.

The cloths employ microfibers with diameters of just two microns, or around 1/1,600th the diameter of a human hair. Gaps between the fibers are invisible to the naked eye and draw dirt into them to deftly remove sebum from eyewear and touch panels on smartphones and other devices. There are also medical and manufacturing applications.

This item comprises a 19cm x 19cm 2022 cloth and a precision screwdriver pen with flat and Phillips heads for conveniently adjusting eyeglasses. The set will retail for 990 yen, plus consumption tax. |

3.Toraysee™ New Year Cloth with White Tiger Pattern for Health and Longevity
This design incorporates the zodiac sign for the white tiger, a divine beast that brings fortune for the family the chrysanthemum, which celebrates health and longevity, bamboo, which wards off bad luck, and the swastika, the symbol portraying a wish for ten thousand blessings for family prosperity and good fortune. This 24cm x 24cm item will retail for 880 yen, including consumption tax. |

4.Tekari Sarari™ New Year Oil-Removing Face Cloth
This silken cloth helps men and women alike to maintain their appearance. It gently removes sebum from makeup without destroying the foundation. It folds like a handkerchief for using in public places. You can wash and reuse it repeatedly. This offering features green to distinguish it from the other New Year cloths. This 15cm x 19cm items will retail for 660 yen, including consumption tax. |
Items 1 and 3 will be in stylish, environmentally friendly packaging. All packaging for items 1 through 4 is compact and fits in a standard envelope for posting in regular mail.

Initiatives for Toraysee™ New Year Cloths
Last year, Toray responded to the SDGs by reviewing the materials it uses in merchandise packaging (in keeping with goal 12. Responsible Consumption and Production) while reducing the number of plastic bags in packaging (in line with goal 14. Life Below Water). Toray has maintained its SDGs commitments, prioritizing the two goals below.

Since 2009, we have supported children’s education by donating a percentage of Toraysee™ New Year cloth sales to the National Federation of UNESCO Associations in Japan. Since 2012, we have donated to that organization’s fund for children affected by the Great East Japan Earthquake. We plan to continue such assistance. |
