Specifically, starting from rayon filament production, we have created numerous innovative products of nylon, polyester, and acrylic fibers, and based on the core technologies of polymer chemistry, organic synthetic chemistry, and biochemistry cultivated by the manufacturing of these synthetic fibers, we have broadened our technology flow by integration with nanotechnology and other cutting-edge technologies. As a result, Toray Group has expanded in wide-ranging areas from base materials to processed products of high-performance films, engineering plastic resins, carbon fiber composite materials, electronics and information related products, high-performance membranes, pharmaceuticals and medical products, and others.

Toray celebrated the 80th anniversary of its foundation in 2006 and upon this milestone occasion, we have appointed new core technologies of Toray Group for the 21st century expected to become the key part of research and development for the next 80 years which are Organic Synthetic Chemistry, Polymer Science, Biotechnology, and Nanotechnology. Toray Group will challenge for further "Innovation" through utilizing its core technologies and their integrated technologies with the aim of becoming "a global top company of advanced materials".
