University Students Visit PAB and TPM

On 9 November 2015, 36 textile technology students from the Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), accompanied by three lecturers, paid a visit to Toray Group companies in Malaysia (hereinafter referred to as "TGM"). The educational tour, specifically to PAB, is to enable the undergraduates enrich their practical knowledge and skills in spinning, weaving, dyeing and printing processes of textile manufacturing.

Prior to the guided production tour of Mill 2, Mill 3 and Mill 4, the students were first briefed on the theoretical aspects of fabric production, covering the spinning of polyester and cotton blended yarn, weaving of grey and yarn-dyed woven fabrics and dyeing and printing of fabrics. Many questions, arising from the factory tours were answered during the question-and-answer session, to the satisfaction of the enthusiastic students.


The one-day visit to PAB has certainly impressed the visitors who found the tour very educational and fruitful. TGM is happy that the students have benefited greatly in terms of knowledge enrichment, practical course study and future career development.

At TGM, we strongly believe that human capital is the best asset. In support of Malaysia's aspiration to further develop its human resources, TGM hosted 27 undergraduates and two lecturers from University Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) to an educational visit at TPM. The half-day visit, conducted on 6 November, was aimed at exposing the petrochemical engineering students to the real life working environment in the chemical industry, particularly in plastic resins manufacturing.

During this industrial visit, the students were briefed on the various aspects of plant operations, including safety and environment concern, research and development functions, and the polymerization and production processes of ABS resin. During the question-and-answer session, the enthusiastic students raised many questions which were all satisfactorily answered by the factory personnel in attendance.


The educational tour has certainly impressed the UTAR visitors who found the visit educational and fruitful. Hopefully, the experiences and knowledge gained will help the students in their course study and future career development.
