December 7, 2015 marked another milestone for the Toray Group in Malaysia (hereinafter referred to as "TGM") when the newly completed TORAY USM Knowledge Transfer Centre at Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM)'s main campus in Penang was officially opened by YB Dato' Seri Idris bin Jusoh, Malaysia's Minister of Higher Education. Among the distinguished guests present were His Excellency Dr. Makio Miyagawa, Japanese ambassador to Malaysia, President Akihiro Nikkaku, Senior Vice President Yukichi Deguchi, and Senior Director Katsuyuki Yamada, all from Toray Industries, Inc., Japan, and managing directors of Toray Group companies in Malaysia.
The centre was built with a four million ringgit donation made by TGM as part of their 40th anniversary celebration in 2013. USM will promote and preserve the local culture, traditions, heritage, environment and other related issues at this innovative centre, which also provide facilities for graduate research as well as integration and networking of local and international researchers.
As human resource development is the key for Malaysia, which aims to be a developed country by the year 2020, the minister and the top management of USM expressed their appreciations to Toray repeatedly.
We will continue to foster deeper collaboration with USM for community development.
