Keiko Sakai, General Manager of International Planning Dept., and Mariko Kanamori, Senior Staff of CSR Operations Dept., gave lectures on the theme of "Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and Active Role of Women at Workplace" at Sophia University in Tokyo, Japan on December 20, 2017. The lectures were given to about 80 students, cooperating with "Manufacturing Enterprise Studies―Learning from Case Study of Global Corporations," a course started this autumn for junior students of the university by former Toray Senior Vice President Hiroshi Murakami, who is currently a Visiting Professor of the university’s Center for Global Discovery.

In the first half of the lecture, based on the theme of "CSR at Toray Group―With a Focus on Social Contribution Activities," Sakai and Kanamori recreated part of the science classes the company offers for elementary and junior high school students to experience the company’s practical activities. They also discussed how Toray, as a material manufacturer, grasps and drives forward social responsibility.

In the latter half, Sakai talked about career building and future prospects at a manufacturing enterprise based on her own experience as well as the content of the company’s concrete efforts regarding promoting an active role of women at workplace.

In the reports on the lecture, the students wrote, "It provided ideas about working as a part of the society in the future" and "It was very stimulating to hear talks by the energetic female managerial staff." It also served as a valuable learning opportunity for the lecturers.
