【Malaysia】Toray Group Companies in Malaysia

On 18 December 2017, Masahiko Kawamura, Toray Industries, Inc.’s Chief Representative for Malaysia, accompanied by KK Hun, Associate Director of Toray Industries (Malaysia) Sdn. Berhad (TML), paid a courtesy visit to Mr. Lim Guan Eng, the Chief Minister of Penang, at his office.

The visit was a follow-up meeting to update Penang State on the performance of Toray Group companies in Malaysia, as well as the Group’s future investment plans and vision for growth in Penang, whose citizens’ values and work ethics Toray is most confident in and comfortable with. Kawamura also acknowledged the challenges to be faced, which need the support and understanding of the authorities.

In return, the Chief Minister assured Kawamura that State authorities and agencies, namely the Penang Development Corporation, Invest-in-Penang Berhad and local authorities, will provide the Group with the necessary assistance and support. The State authority will continue to make Penang an investment-friendly location for foreign investors, especially Toray, who has been investing in Penang since the 1970s.

During the cordial 45-minute meeting, Kawamura also voiced Toray’s condolence over the devastating flooding which struck Penang on 4 and 5 November 2017. He later presented a contribution on behalf of Toray to the Penang Flood Relief Fund. In receiving the donation, the Chief Minister thanked Toray for its contributions, in addition to its various corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives carried out for the benefit of Malaysians.
