On January 18, 2018, Kazumasa Mizuno, Senior Staff of Toray Industries, Inc.’s Medical Products Technical Dept., gave a lecture to 35 freshmen at the Chemical Industry Department of Shiga Prefectural Seta Technical High School. The lecture was based on the environmental education program "Connection between Advanced Materials and Global Environmental Issues" and Mizuno spoke for about two hours on the overview of the company, monozukuri (manufacturing) at Seta Plant and his message to students reflecting his own experiences.
All students intently listened to Mizuno’s lecture till the end. He received lots of comments from the students on the lecture, which include the following: "I learned a lot from someone who is actually engaged in manufacturing at a plant and I want to think seriously about my future;" "As Mr. Mizuno said, I also think I would be glad if something I worked hard to create contributes in helping someone;" "I was surprised to find that Toray’s fibers are used in various scenes of our lives. I also learned that they contribute to the environment and it made me feel like studying chemistry harder, although it is a tough subject."
"I am delighted that Mr. Mizuno has taught the students the perspectives of ‘monozukuri’ and ‘roles of a company’ in this class and the students spent such meaningful time gaining new experience and knowledge. I am sure that the lecture also encouraged students to have high ambitions in their career," the school principal wrote in his thank-you letter.
"I felt the importance of having an opportunity like this as I saw the students’ shining eyes when they touched advanced materials and when carrying out experiment. It also made me feel once again the importance of creating new technologies and advanced materials. I would be happy if I could be of some help to them in their endeavors in the future," Mizuno said.
