58th Toray Science Foundation Presentation Ceremony

On March 15, 2018, the Toray Science Foundation Presentation Ceremony for 2017 was held solemnly with some 160 guests and related officials at the Industry Club of Japan in Tokyo, Japan. At the ceremony, the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology of Japan as well as the Japan Academy President offered their congratulations to the winners.

The Toray Science and Technology Prize winners, Dr. Hiroshi Hamada, Director of Center for Developmental Biology, RIKEN, and Dr. Kaoru Inokuchi, Professor of Graduate School of Medicine and Pharmaceutical Sciences, University of Toyama, and the teachers receiving the Toray Science Education Prize including the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology Award were presented the respective certificates of merit, medals and prize money. The 10 recipients of Toray Science and Technology Grants altogether received a 130 million yen fund.

“Japan is currently facing a multitude of challenges such as tackling a declining population, falling birthrate and ageing of society, and the importance of fundamental research will increase even further for generating superior scientific technologies,” said Akihiro Nikkaku, President of Toray Science Foundation and Toray Industries, Inc., in his speech. “Toray Science Foundation will continue to contribute to the development and promotion of fundamental science and science education through research grant program and by honoring researchers and teachers,” he added.
