【Mexico】Toray Group Companies in Mexico

A special class in science and social studies titled “The relation between water treatment and global environment; getting to know father’s work” by Japanese employees working at Toray Group companies in Mexico was held on August 22, 2018 at the Japanese School of Guadalajara in Guadalajara, Mexico. Tadashi Toba, General Manager of the Technology Division at Zoltek de México, S.A. de C.V. (Zoltek), Masahide Kuramoto, Director of Sales and Marketing Department, Purchasing and logistics Department at Toray Advanced Textile Mexico, S.A. de C.V. (TAMX), and Toray Resin Mexico, S.A. de C.V. (TRMX)’s Yoriyuki Hanaka, Director of Sales Department, and Satoshi Matsubara, General Manager of Production Department, gave lectures to 30 students and their parents.

This school was started as a semi full-time school in 1981 for Japanese children living in Guadalajara, the second biggest city in Mexico, and offers classes in accordance with the education program in Japan. The classes are held during weekday evenings (approximately 200 days per year). Most of the children of Toray Group’s expatriates are enrolled in this school, and they go to the local school (American school, Canadian school, etc.) during day time. As Toray Group’s business expanded, the number of children of Toray Group expatriates increased and became the largest group at this school.

To begin with, in the science class, the students did an experiment on filtering fruit juice and ink using hollow fiber membrane provided by Toray Industries, Inc.’s CSR Promotion Dept. and learned about environmental issues and the functions of the membrane. In the social studies class following the science class, the lecturers gave an overview of Toray. Each lecturer showed them the products of the business he is in charge of, such as fibers and textiles, resin, carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP), and explained the relation between Toray’s business and the global environment. It was a good opportunity for the children to know how their fathers are contributing to the Mexican business and global environmental issues.

After the class, the principal of the school and the parents politely sent us a letter of thanks and we were pleased that they were satisfied with our class. We, Toray Group companies in Mexico, will continue to contribute to the community through corporate social responsibility (CSR) activities.
