Year 2018 marked another significant milestone for MTSF as the premier Malaysian charitable foundation celebrates its 25th anniversary. Celebrated in conjunction with the 2018 Prize Presentation Ceremony on 29 November 2018 at Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, the function was presided by Deputy Secretary General Dr. Ramzah Dambul on behalf of the Malaysian Minister of Energy, Science, Technology, Environment and Climate Change. Other distinguished guests joining in the auspicious occasion included Mr. Hiroyuki Orikasa, Deputy Chief of Mission from the Embassy of Japan in Malaysia, Mr. Kazushi Hashimoto, Executive Advisor of Toray Industries Inc. of Japan, Tan Sri Dr. Omar Abdul Rahman, MTSF Chairman, and Teh Hock Soon, Toray’s Chief Representative for Malaysia cum Managing Director of MTSF.
In the keynote address, Dr. Dambul thanked MTSF for its continuous efforts in advancing science and technology in Malaysia. Since its establishment in 1993, MTSF has helped in rekindling creativity and interest in Malaysian scientists, researchers and educators, besides enhancing a positive research culture. He urged Malaysians to excel in science and technology and strive for the success of Malaysia as a developed nation.
Dr. Dambul complimented Toray Group for the various corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives and urged more companies to emulate Toray, who practices the corporate philosophy of “Contributing to society through the creation of new value with innovative ideas, technologies and products.”
A total of 29 Malaysians, comprising two scientists, 12 young researchers and 15 innovative school teachers were presented with awards and grants at the ceremony. MTSF looks forward to more successful years ahead.
