Toray Industries Europe GmbH (TEU) jointly with International Human Resources Dept. of Toray Industries, Inc. conducted EUSMS and EUMS in November and December 2018. We hope that the trainees who took part in the EUSMS and EUMS will fully utilize the knowledge and network they gained in the training for the continued development of the Toray Group companies in Europe.

The EUSMS was held from November 7 to 9 at Zoltek Zrt. (Zoltek HU) in Hungary for 12 general managers and senior managers from seven Toray Group companies in Europe. Zoltek provided all-round support for holding the training and we were able to hold the training in a great environment.

On the first day, Takashi Kato, Toray’s Chief Representative for Europe, delivered the opening address and explained the business developments of Toray in the world as well as in Europe and talked about his expectations of the management. Subsequently, the trainees learned about the details of Toray’s compliance initiative (Mission B.E.A.R.) and its Medium-Term Management Program, Project AP-G 2019. On the second day, the global business management session was held and the trainees, along with learning intercultural management, discussed how they could put the new knowledge they gained into use at their own companies.

On the final day, discussions were held on the roles of the managerial employees in order to achieve the three basic strategies of Project AP-G 2019. The trainees debated and announced the initiatives that are required to achieve the management tasks in accordance with Toray’s corporate philosophy.

The EUMS was held from December 5 to 7 in Frankfurt, Germany, with 15 manager level employees representing seven companies from six countries in Europe attending.

On the first day, Kato, Toray’s Chief Representative for Europe, in his opening speech talked about Toray’s business expansion globally as well as in Europe and expressed his expectations for the managers, following which Managing Director Richard Stephens of Toray Textiles Europe Ltd. (TTEL) explained the history of the struggles faced by TTEL and the measures taken by the company, working together as one, in making it profitable. A team management workshop was held from the afternoon of the first day and into the second day. The trainees eagerly learned effective and efficient organizational management, leadership, intercultural communication, etc. through various training drills. On the final day, Takuo Ito, CFO of Delta-Tech S.p.A. (DELTA), gave a lecture on basic Toray cost management, after which the trainees learned the details of Project AP-G 2019 as well as Toray’s global human resources management.

The three-day program ended with each of the trainees announcing what they gained in the training and how that would be put to use in their job going forward.
