【Japan】Toray Industries, Inc.

On December 6, 2018, former players of Toray Arrows men’s and women’s volleyball teams ―Hiroshi Katsuno of Toray Industries, Inc., Mayumi Midorikawa of Toyo Business Support Inc. and Miki Oyama of Toray Precision Co., Ltd.―visited Sasugaya Elementary School in Bunkyo Ward, Tokyo, and taught soft volleyball to 34 fifth graders during a two-hour physical education class.

With many teachers struggling to teach soft volleyball, which was newly introduced in Japan’s elementary school physical education, Toray launched this initiative in 2015 as part of its education support activities to give basic volleyball training and have the students and teachers feel the joy of playing the sport. This was the second school where Toray held this training in the current fiscal year.

After the class by the former players of Toray Arrows, the homeroom teachers gave the following comments: "I am satisfied that the class was taught at a good pace from the warming-up exercises and children enjoyed and improved their skills;" "The flow of learning was smooth and was designed to make it easy for children to work on. I did not expect them to improve receiving the ball so much just by setting aside a little time for practicing. We were also taught the key points in teaching, so I would like to utilize it in the future teaching material studies."
