A powerful earthquake of magnitude 7.5 struck the Indonesian island of Sulawesi on 28 September 2018. The huge tremblor triggered a cascade of disasters, including a deadly tsunami and widespread soil liquefaction burying buildings and igniting fires. Thousands were confirmed dead, with even more now homeless. Palu, Donggala and the surrounding areas are in desperate need of help for the ongoing relief efforts as food, water, medical supplies, and other essentials are in short supply.
Recognizing that every effort counts, Penfabric Management Staff Association (PMSA) recently organized a donation drive to help the people of the province of Central Sulawesi rebuild their lives in our own small way. Led by PMSA Chairman Andy Teoh, the campaign ended on 27 December 2018.
Many Penfabricans donated generously and we collected a total of 2700 ringgit in addition to clothes and household items. These will be channeled through the Buddhist Tzu Chi Merit Society in Penang, a humanitarian aid NGO, to trusted Indonesian relief organizations working on the ground in the affected areas.
