The 36th edition of Toray Pan Pacific Open Tennis Tournament executive committee (headquartered in Tokyo’s Minato ward and led by tournament director Yutaka Nakagawa), the largest international women’s tennis tournament in Japan, will be held for the first time at the largest tennis facilities in the Kansai area and the arena to many international competitions – ITC Utsubo Tennis Center (Nishi-ku, Osaka) – from Saturday, September 14th to Sunday, September 22nd, 2019.
Since its inception in 1984, the Toray Pan Pacific Open Tennis Tournament has been the stage for epic face-offs between the women’s tennis superstars of the world, enthralling tennis fans in Japan. This year, after dominating at the 2018 US Open and the 2019 Australian Open, Japan’s Naomi Osaka who achieved WTA World No.1 position (currently No. 2 in the world rankings*), announced that she would play in the tournament again. Angelique Kerber (No. 5 in the world rankings*) also announced that she would appear. This year will mark Osaka's seventh appearance in the tournament. Japanese fans are eagerly anticipating witnessing Osaka's potential vindication for her two previous semi-final finishes in 2016 and 2018. This year's tournament will be another heated contest, with an assembly of the world's best players. All singles matches of the main draw will be broadcast live on WOWOW.
