【Thailand】Thailand Toray Sicence Foundation (TTSF)

On March 8, 2019, TTSF held the 25th Presentation Ceremony to bestow the awards and the science and technology research grants, at The Athenee Hotel Bangkok, Thailand. This year, His Excellency General Surayud Chulanont, the Privy Councillor, was the guest of honor of the ceremony, along with His Excellency Mr. Shiro Sadoshima, the Japanese ambassador to Thailand. Akihiro Nikkaku, the President of Toray Industries, Inc. and Honorary Chairman of TTSF, and Dr. Yongyuth Yuthavong, the Chairman of TTSF, also attended the ceremony.

With its main purpose to promote and support the scientific and technological research for further development and growth thereof in Thailand, this year, TTSF awarded the Science and Technology Award to Dr. Adisorn Tuantranont, Research Fellow of National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA), in the Individual Class, and the National Astronomical Research Institute of Thailand (NARIT) in the Institute Class. The Science and Technology Research Grants were given to a total of 20 projects; eight in the fields of agriculture and biology, four each in the fields of chemistry, physics, and engineering. As for the Science Education Awards, a total of 150,000 baht were granted to middle schools and 260,000 baht for high schools.

During the past 25 years of TTSF’s operation since its establishment in 1994, it has received a total of 3,237 project proposals from teachers and researchers in universities and research institutes across the country. TTSF has provided research grants amounting to 95,400,000 baht to 446 researchers from universities and/or research institutes from 50 places across the country.

After the presentation ceremony, General Surayud visited the exhibition of the awarded projects and complimented as well as encouraged them to develop their research for scientific and technological growth of the country.
