From May 21 to 23, 2019, Toray Industries (America), Inc. (TAM) held the 14th USSMS in Rhode Island, United States, where Toray Plastics (America), Inc. (TPA) is located. Twenty representatives from seven Toray Group companies in the Americas participated in the seminar. This included five participants from Toray Advanced Composites USA Inc. (TAC US), which joined the Toray Group last year, and two people from Zoltek de Mexico S.A. de C.V. (ZMX) and Toray Resin Mexico, S.A. de C.V. (TRMX).
Speaking at the start of the first day of the seminar, Minoru Yoshinaga, Toray Industries, Inc.’s Chief Representative for America, gave an outline of the Toray Group, the priority tasks under the Medium-Term Management Program, Project AP-G 2019 and the expectations placed on the seminar participants. Subsequently, lectures were held on topics such as corporate ethics and legal compliance, utilization of information system at group level in the Americas and human resources management with the goal of further deepening the understanding of the management of Toray Group. TPA President and CEO Michael Brandmeier talked about what an ideal Toray Group leader should be, based on his own experience.
On the second day, an external lecturer held a lecture on cross-cultural communication, in which the participants learned communication skills as leaders of Toray Group which conducts its business globally.
Throughout the three days, the participants were divided into four groups and discussed the roles of senior managers for achieving goals under the basic strategies of Project AP-G 2019. On the seminar’s final day, the groups presented the outcomes of their discussions and held Q&A sessions.
We hope the participants will apply what they have learned in the seminar at their respective workplaces, strive to strengthen the collaboration and synergies between the group companies and take active part, as senior managers of the Toray Group, in further expanding the Americas business.
