Recently, TREC received the Volunteer Protection Program (VPP) Star Certification recommended by Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), an agency of the United States Department of Labor. Government officials from the State of Indiana presented the award during the ceremony at TREC on May 30, 2019.

VPP is an OSHA initiative that encourages private industry and federal agencies to prevent workplace injuries and illnesses through hazard prevention and control, worksite analysis, training, and cooperation between management and workers. Approval into VPP requires a rigorous assessment process and it is OSHA's official recognition of the outstanding achievement of employers and employees who have achieved exemplary occupational safety and health results.

TREC is now the 88th site in the State of Indiana to receive this recognition and it is the very first in Shelby County, where TREC is located. Less than 2,200 manufacturing companies in the United States have achieved Star Certification. Toray Group believes safety is the highest priority, and TREC is the third company in the United States to receive the recognition following Toray Fluorofibers (America), Inc. (TFA) and Toray Plastics (America), Inc. (TPA)’s Virginia Plant.

On the day of the ceremony, local and state officials delivered various congratulatory addresses including Tom DeBaun, Shelbyville Mayor, and the OSHA award was presented by Rick Ruble, Commissioner of the Indiana Department of Labor. Employees, family members and members of the community participated in the award ceremony.

“I am very proud of our employees and their daily commitment to working safe. When it comes to safety, each member of the TREC team takes seriously their responsibility for creating and maintaining a safe working environment. We are exceedingly proud of this accomplishment, and we look forward to continuing our proactive (Think Possible Consequences) approach to safety, an approach that prevents accidents and allows our people to go home safe every day,” TREC President Dennis Godwin said in his speech.

With this recognition, management and employees are committed to working together to further improve our environmental, safety and health programs—a commitment that ensures a sustainable safety program and zero accidents.
