The 36th edition of Toray Pan Pacific Open Tennis Tournament executive committee (headquartered in Tokyo’s Minato ward and led by tournament director Yutaka Nakagawa) has chosen 18 players for the main draw and one wild-card entry. The 2019 tournament (known for short as Toray Pan Pacific Open Tennis) runs from Saturday September 1 until Sunday September 22 at the ITC Utsubo Tennis Center in Osaka.
This year’s event will be the 36th edition of the tournament, the pinnacle of women's professional tennis in Japan. The tournament will also be held for the first time in Osaka, at the ITC Utsubo Tennis Center. Naomi Osaka (world’s No. 1, Japan) was quick to announce her appearance at this tournament, marking a triumphant return to her hometown of Osaka. Other competitors from the WTA Top 10 include for the First Time Kiki Bertens (No. 5, Netherlands) and Sloane Stephens (No. 10, USA). Comprising a who's who of women's professional tennis, other competitors in the main draw include who Bianca Andreescu (No.14,CAN) jumped this season, Belinda Bencic (No. 12, Switzerland), a familiar face at this tournament, and Angelique Kerber (No. 13, Germany), as well as several other well-known stars. The tournament organizers have also chosen Misaki Doi (No. 82) to compete as a wild-card entry representing Japan.
