Saving energy resources has been an important national strategy in recent years in China, the world’s largest energy consumer, and the country has been promoting measures to strengthen its energy efficiency management.
Under such circumstances, the New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO) of Japan signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) of China in September 2017 to demonstrate Japanese energy-saving technologies in the country. In the following December, NEDO, jointly with Yokogawa Electric Corporation, The Japan Research Institute, Limited and Tokyo Electric Power Company Holdings, Incorporated, introduced the latest energy management system (EMS) at PTHL’s factory in Guangzhou, Guangdong Province, and a plant of another company, which consume large amount of energy and frequently switch production items. The demonstration operation was set to start on July 24, 2019 after the completion of the trial run, and a commencement ceremony for that was held at PTHL.
The introduction of EMS is expected to enable efficient supply of electricity and steam resulting in significant reductions in power consumption. Linked with production site and enterprise resources planning (ERP) system, it is also expected to improve energy supply and demand, improve production process by identifying issues and problems of production site including production process and facilities from an energy perspective, and promote management efficiency by allowing the management to grasp the production situation. PTHL shall showcase the effectiveness of the system in the demonstration operation.
In the fibers and textiles industry, which is being called upon to improve operation efficiency while saving energy and reducing CO2 emissions, being selected as a company for introducing EMS has significant meaning to PTHL. PTHL will not only reduce energy consumption and production cost but also promote energy reforms in the entire industry to respond to the major goals of energy saving and CO2 emission reduction of China.
The ceremony was attended by officials from NDRC, Development and Reform Commission of Guangdong Province, Consulate-General of Japan in Guangzhou and NEDO and companies involved in the implementation of the project along with Executive Vice Chairman Masaru Okutomi and two other officials from PTHL.
The demonstration operation will be implemented through March 2021 and will continue to operate even after the completion of the project.
