September 6, 2019, Tokyo – Toray Industries, Inc. today announced its agreement with the purport of the White Logistics Movement, an initiative aimed at ensuring stable logistics function necessary for the people's lives and for industrial activities while also contributing to economic growth, and submitted a declaration of voluntary activities.

1. White Logistics Movement
White Logistics Movement is an initiative aimed at ensuring stable logistics function necessary for the people's lives and for industrial activities while also contributing to economic growth in response to the worsening shortage of truck drivers. It aims to improve the productivity of truck transportation and raise logistical efficiency, while looking to realize a “whiter" labor environment, which makes it easier for female and drivers over the age of 60 to work. The movement was started with the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT), Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) and Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF) seeking the participation of some 6,300 businesses including listed companies and leading enterprises in each prefecture in April 2019.

2. Toray's Declaration of Voluntary Activities
Toray, in order to overcome the worsening logistics crisis, declares to carry out the following activities and will work to improve the logistics environment.

Suspend, discontinue, etc. of operation in case of adverse weather, etc. Give utmost priority to the truck driver's safety in the event of adverse weather, earthquake, etc.

3. Toray's Recent Initiatives
Toray has been promoting modal shift (change in transportation mode from trucks to rail and marine transportation) to address the shortage in truck drivers and to reduce CO2 emissions in logistics, while actively engaging in measures to improve the efficiency of logistics by changing vehicles used for transportation, etc.

2011 Certified as an Eco Rail Mark Company by MLIT and Railway Freight Association. Toray simultaneously obtained the Eco Rail Mark Product certification for its polyester fiber TETORON®.
2016 Toray's PBT resin product TORAYCON® also receives the Eco Rail Mark certification.
2017 Switched from a dedicated hopper car to multipurpose container-type
vehicles to transport raw materials between plants. CO2 emissions reduced by 28% compared to before by enabling transportation of different raw materials in outward and return trips.
2018 Certified as “2017 Eco-Ship Modal Shift Project Supporters of the Year" by MLIT, winning “MLIT Maritime Bureau Chief awards."
Toray will continue to strive to improve the logistics environment as part of its CSR initiatives and based on mutual understanding and cooperation with vendors and logistics companies while aiming to realize sustainable logistics.
