TSCH’s Takahito Teramoto, Senior General Manager of Personnel & Administration Department, led the Little League Baseball U-12 Hong Kong team at the 2019 Little League Baseball Asia-Pacific & Middle East Regional Tournament (U-12) held at Hwaseong, Republic of Korea, from June 22 to 28, 2019.
The Hong Kong team, under the motto “Enjoy doing what you have to do in practice and actual match,” made it to the semifinals by virtue of their second place in the preliminary league group which consisted of five countries and regions, namely Northern Mariana Islands, New Zealand, Taiwan, Vietnam and Hong Kong, playing solid defense and sustained hitting. Though the team lost to eventual winners Republic of Korea in the semifinals, this tied their best ever performance.
The baseball playing population is limited in Hong Kong, which doesn’t have much flat lands, but true to the international nature of the city, the players are from various places including Hong Kong, Japan, United States and Republic of Korea and both the coaches are Americans. “With team members hailing from culturally different backgrounds coming together as a team to pursue the goal, the adults and the children were able to build a good relationship of trust,” said Teramoto conveying his thoughts.
