As part of Toray’s social contribution activities, Toray Group employees from diverse professional backgrounds visited schools around Japan to hold lectures from June to August, 2019.
The environmental education program “Advanced materials and global environmental issues―Materials can change our lives” and the scientific experiment program “Learning about particles in water” are aimed at making students realize the connection between learning science and advanced technology and nurturing their interest in science.
At Shiga Prefectural Torahime High School and Nishiyamato Gakuen High School, the Toray lecturers discussed SDGs and career education in addition to the regular program during the lectures and it was received very well by the teachers and students.
Students who were taught by Toray lecturers said, “I was surprised that there is an unimaginably minute world, as I learned that paint particles do not go through hollow fiber membrane but salt water particles do,” and “I learned that the knowledge of science we are studying every day is linked to solutions of problems occurring on the earth, and it made me want to continue studying science.”
We are planning to visit more than 30 schools also from October 2019 onwards in areas neighboring the plants and offices of the Toray Group companies.
