【Republic of Korea】Korea Toray Science Foundation (KTSF)

The second KTSF Awards Ceremony to present the Science and Technology Awards and the Science and Technology Research Fund was held in Seoul, Republic of Korea on October 31, 2019.

In the Science and Technology Awards, Mr. Juyoung Yoon, Chair Professor of Ewha Women’s University, won for Basic Research while Mr. Doosung Lee, Chair Professor of Sungkyunkwan University, was chosen for Applied Research and were presented the prize money and plaques.

Four teams―respectively led by Mr. Heejin Kim, Professor of Korea University, Mr. Jungwon Park, Professor of Seoul National University, Mr. Bumjoon Kim, Professor of KAIST (Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology), Mr. Jeong Kim, Professor of Incheon National University―were chosen for the Korea Toray Science and Technology Research Fund, and will be provided with research funds for the next three years.

“KTSF is contributing to the development of science and technology in Republic of Korea and I hope it will also contribute to strengthening the understanding and cooperation between Japan and Republic of Korea,” said Toray Industries, Inc. President Akihiro Nikkaku, who attended the ceremony, in his address.

The ceremony was graced by Mr. Yoo Young-min, former Minister of Science and ICT in the country, and Mr. Tomofumi Nishinaga, Minister of Embassy of Japan in the Republic of Korea, in addition to Professor Hideo Hosono of Tokyo Institute of Technology, a strong contender for the Nobel Prize in Physics, who gave a special lecture.
