On December 7, 2019, Naohiro Asami, General Manager of Investor Relations Dept., conducted a lecture on career education for second year students of the Shibuya Municipal Harajukugaien Junior High School in Tokyo.
The school regularly offers workplace experiences to its students at local shops, companies, and public facilities. The aim of the lecture was to deepen the students’ understanding of what it means to work and to offer them an opportunity to think of their career path ahead of the workplace training. It was held as part of the Mirai Kyoshitsu (meaning “class for the future” in English) organized by Oyaji Nippon, an NPO working to contribute to the healthy development of children.
Asami talked about how his own life was changed by a movie and introduced his experience of entrance exams for high school and university as well as work after joining the company using anecdotes. He concluded with the message, “‘Identity’ is important to live your own life. Act based on your own accord instead of blaming the environment.”
After the lecture, the children gave the following comments: “I learned the importance of identifying what I want to do from what I like and working towards achieving that goal,” “I will think more about what it means to ’work’ based on today’s lecture and the upcoming workplace training,” “I still don’t know what I want to do but the lecture has triggered interest in me regarding “work.”
