【Malaysia】Toray Group Companies in Malaysia

On 23 December 2019, Toray Group companies in Malaysia (hereinafter referred to as “TGM”) successfully organized its annual group-wide firefighting competition at the Penang State Fire and Rescue Department in Prai, Penang, with the participation of 56 associates from all the four mills of Penfabric Sdn. Berhad (PAB), Toray Plastics (Malaysia) Sdn. Berhad (TPM), Fibre and Film divisions of Penfibre Sdn. Berhad (PFR), and Toray Malaysia Systems Solution Sdn. Bhd. (TMS).

In his opening remarks, TGM Safety Chairman Akihiro Omura, who is also the Managing Director of TPM, thanked the Penang State and Fire and Rescue Department for their kind cooperation and strong support in training the TGM Emergency Response Teams. Omura also expressed his appreciation to the Group companies for their concerted efforts in keeping the various plants and operation safe and secure.

The Firefighting Competition was presided by Mr. Mohd Shukhri Bin Abdul Rahman, Superintendent of Penang State Fire and Rescue Department, in the presence of Teh Hock Soon, Toray Industries, Inc.’s Chief Representative for Malaysia, and Hirokazu Kurome, the Deputy Representative. After delivering his welcome speech, Mr. Mohd Shukhri conducted an inspection of all the seven teams before officially starting the competition.

There were two competition categories, namely the “hydrant and fire hose challenge” for male participants and the “fire extinguisher challenge” for female members. Throughout the competition, the participants exhibited good teamwork, sportsmanship and fighting spirit. After a close contest, PAB Mill 4 was crowned the champions for both categories while TPM and PAB Mill 3 emerged as the first and second runners-up for the Male category. For the Female category, PAB Mill 1 and TPM won the first and second prizes.

The Firefighting Competition has indeed met the TGM Safety Committee’s objective of improving the effectiveness of emergency responses of TGM associates.
