In January 2020, Toray’s CSR Operations Dept. received students from the Chuo Municipal Ginza Junior High School and the Machida Municipal Sakai Junior High School in Tokyo for workplace visit.
Ginza Junior High School is located in Tokyo’s Chuo Ward where Toray’s Head Office is located. This was the fourth time, following last year, the students were visiting as part of their school’s career education program. Sakai Junior High School, sending their students for the first time, had requested the company to help the students learn about Nihonbashi, where Toray’s Head Office has been based since its inception, under the theme of urban development as part of the school’s out-of-school learning program.
The CSR Operations Dept. members introduced the company to the students and answered the questions the students had prepared in advance, such as questions related to sense of reward from work, the reason why the company changed its name from Toyo Rayon to Toray, and the future society as envisioned by Toray Group. It was refreshing to see the students taking notes earnestly and how they were surprised by the lightness of the carbon fiber sample and made us feel very happy.
Later, we received thank-you letters from the students of the two schools, which included comments such as, “I realized that it is important to contribute to the society also in our daily life,” and “The explanation of advanced materials, which can change the society, people’s lives and culture, left a strong impression in me.”
The students’ visit to workplace gave us a precious opportunity to communicate with local communities.
